Mrs. Barnes----the real story
I went to high school at Greenville Christian School in Greenville, TX where I played varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball, served on the student council, was a member of NHS, performed in the all school musical, and edited the yearbook. After high school, I went to Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. I graduated from OBU with a Bachelor of Science in English Education in 1995. While at OBU, I met and married the love of my life, Philip Barnes. He is a pastor at All Things Fellowship here in Bethany and a math teacher at Mayfield Middle School in Putnam City.
We have three amazing kids. Ransom is an 8th grader at Bethany Middle School. Tait is in 5th grade at Bethany Earl Harris Elementary, and Kambry is in 3rd grade at Bethany. We have two dogs, two fish, and a bearded dragon (though the lizard and I don't really get along). My favorite hobbies are reading, scrapbooking, and watching my kids at football and soccer games, swim meets, and dance competitions. I am also a little bit addicted to Netflix and Facebook.
During the 2009-2010 school year, I worked on achieving my National Board Certification. It was no small task to spend the year writing, contemplating, and evaluating my teaching methods. It was fun to learn from my students and work to become a better teacher. I successfully completed the program, and received my certification in November of 2010.
My mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law, several aunts, and my grandmother are all teachers. I guess you could say it's in the blood in my family. I enjoy teaching because I like to see the impact that my daily work makes on the future. The best part of my job is watching the "light bulb moments" when a student grasps a difficult concept or finds success in class. Every day I have the priviledge of making a difference. I love teaching, particularly at Bethany High School. There is no better place to teach and no better place to learn!
This year, I spent most of my summer away from home. I went to children's camp and youth camp at Falls Creek in Davis, OK, spent a week at the beach in Galveston with my husband's family, went to Texas to visit my family several times, and spent a week in Las Vegas with Mrs. Willhoite, Mr. Barsotti, Mrs. Sappington, and Dr. Wentroth at a teacher conference where we learned new ways to make our school even greater! Below you will find a few of my favorite summer pictures.
